The team and I are going to go to The Beast on the 1st of December which will be a fun few hours. That night is the team BBQ. Have still got to put up the Christmas lights. Will get around to it at some time. Enjoying my job and still liking it. Weather is hot at the moment. I don't like the heat as you can only take off so many bits of clothes before you get get arrested. In winter you can put as many clothes on and no one cares. LOL, that's it. BYE

It is on it's way. The Wharehouse is starting to sell Christmas lights already. We have for the last3-4 year put lights on our house. We will be doing it a little different this year but we love doing it. We sit in the lounge and shout "DRIVE BY" when the people slow down to have a look. I will post some pics of the house from last year soon.

The exercise was great. I was stuffed so I handed over the role of Team Leader to Nikole one of my Deputy's. I had been up for 22 hours and was not the best for me to choose the right thing to do. I had a great sleep as I got to sleep in a real bed as the others had to sleep in a old school. By the way, we went to Timaru. Had one 4wd's and a van. We had a rural fire 4wd that they got us to use from over the hill. It had a shit load of snot. Didn't even know that we were towing a trailer. The exercise went well what I saw of it and the team is debriefing it tonight. Here are some photo's of the exercise.

I have had my first week of doing my new job.

I am loving it and I am going to be losing some weight doing this job. I am stuffed, but it is a good stuffed. I am not going to do training on Monday so I can rest a bit and try and be rested for the exercise on the weekend. Getting up early has been a bit harder but on Friday morning it was the easiest. And I have my weekends back. I have not had them in six years. I was so excited that I did not have to work today and it was because it was a day off. Not because I had to do something for CD or have to go some where. IT WAS A DAY OFF!!!!

I am helping in setting up the Cliff Dale Rescue Comp this year. So I wont be in it. I will be running it. I am looking forward to it and it will be good for the team to. They can give it a go without me there putting my two cents in. The hard bit will be not telling them what is going on and what some of the exercise will be. The pic is of us at the last years comp when we won!

NEW JOB!!!!!

I have done it. I have left Service Foods after 6 years. I am now a milk man. LOL I know that sounds funny but it is true. I work for a guy that has two trucks at Meadow Fresh. I am doing his shop run. It will be great. The only bummer part is i start at 4.30am but I do finish at 1.30pm so that not so bad. I just have to get use to the hours and it should be sweet. Service foods have moved site and they are now located at the new owners site. I am so glad I missed that one. Fiona is still working there and it seems to me that it is not going to well. We just did a team exercise with RT14 and that went really well and I have a big rescue exercise coming up. We are going to be deployed out of Christchruch. They are have a stand down time for drivers for the exercise so they can get us home safely and don't have people falling asleep at the wheel on the way home. I am really looking forward to this one as in involves about 7 different teams. CANT WAIT!!!. It is time for me to get ready for training tonight so see you fellers later.

I'm Back

Howdy Team, I forgot about this blog, but saw a link for it on a friends site and it jogged my memory.

Had a great time in Wainui. I had a great rest and just blissed out. Got back to work and it took about 30 minutes for the holiday to be a waste of time and went right back into stressing out. But i enjoyed the break

Went and saw Transfomers movie with Mr Mackie the other day. It was so good. I didn't think I was going to like in but it was one of the best movies I have seen in a long time.

Fiona's birthday coming up. We are going to go out for tea and I hope she likes her gifts I got her. I like buying gifts for Fi as she is happy with anything. She is so easy to by for. I remember one Christmas we got a BBQ from Fi's parents. We got given it in parts and when they gave us the elements Fi thought it was a door stop and was so excited. That one reason I love her.

Have got a team exercise coming up. One of the guys in the team has set it up so it should be good. I get to play for once as I am the one that sets them up!!.

Been teaching a course as well. Intro to rescue. I have been teaching all the ground rescue stuff. So nothing at height. It has been a lot of fun and it looks like everyone has past. The course evaluation form looked good as well.

The dogs and cat are great. Jabez keeps putting hole in his bean bag bed. Emma is Emma and is still trying to be top dog and taking on Jabez, cat, me and Fiona. The cat is really big now and is making himself the the top cat of Islington. we have been talking to people down the road and he has a few names. One being the Bus stop cat as they have seen him waiting at the bus stop.

What have been up to. I have just done a flood response course. It was a hell of a lot of fun. I was very cold doing the river part as they don't make wetsuits for the big boys. Sand bagging is always fun. NOT!!!.

This weekend Fiona and I and Fiona's mum are going to Wainui for a long weekend. My first holiday since august last year. I CANT WAIT. I have taken Friday off work as well. I was going to have to go back to court for that witness thing that i talked about in a previous post but they have postponed it again. Yeah for me.

Will report back again after trip.

Here I am again. Have not been here in a while. My computer is down at home so I am on the in-laws one.

Not much has happened. The exercise was good (Sort of) and we have had the washing machine fixed. Work has new owners and I still have a job. That's it really. Team still going good and have a training tomorrow. It will be team building. Fiona is really tired and has been working really hard. I am so proud of her. She just keeps on going.

Court Today

When you say to people that you are going to court, people always think that you have done something wrong.

Well, I was a witness to a car accident. The guy did not turn up to court so a warrant has been issued for his arrest and i will have to go back at a later date if he does not plead guilty. I enjoyed the day off work.

Ruapehu Lahar

It has finally happened. The crater lake dam has burst and we have had the lahar that they have been talking about for a long time. There is a little bit more info at www.nzrt.org . Two of the RT's have been put on standby but it looks like the lahar stayed in the river flow. I am waiting for the news to see what they have to say.

Good Start, Bad Finish

Well I was having a good day at about 8 o'clock this morning, and at 11am but around 12.00 it all went to sh*t. It was sort of my fault. I was doing my run and had do to a delivery into a pub. The pub was on the opposite side of the road. So I parked my truck in a bus stop. Yip I should not have done that, but you got to do what you got to do. As I was getting the stock out of the side door of my truck I turned around to have this guy right in my face shouting at me,

"Do you know it is illegal to park in a bus stop, as it says in the road code".

First I said to myself, this guy is a bit simple. He sounded simple and I know I should not judge people on how they sound but when he is in your face you have to make a quick first impression. I scanned him up and down as fast as I could while he still goes on about parking in a bus stop and I notice that he had a Logo of one of the bus company's on his hat. I looked behind the truck to see that he was a driver coming onto shift with the bus company car parked behind me. I had left plenty of room behind me so if a bus did turn up it could park and do it's thing. So he is in my face going off and said back,

"Well if you guys stopped parking in our loading zones we would not have to park in your bus stops".

Being a smart bugger did not work and made him more mad. He is still shouting at about parking in a bus stop. In a break while he was taking a breath I got in with, (and I did this in a quite but stern voice)

"If you stopped shouting at me and treated me with a little bit more respect I might listen to you and move my truck". His answer was,

"I AM NOT SHOUTING AT YOU, do you know it is illegal to park in a bus stop" Then I tried the next thing,

"Will you F*ck off".

At this point in time I think I did the wrong thing but I was getting really angry with this guy as he was in my face and I was just trying to do my job. Then we had a weird moment where we both were standing in each other faces as I said,

"Have you finished" and his reply was,

"Are you going to move".

We did this about ten times. People were looking at us and staring at us. I was just about ready to blow and getting so angry I said,

" Look mate, if you don't get the f*ck out of my face you will regret it".

That was the wrong thing to say, was it not. Then it was on. This guy starts shouting,

"You threaten me, come on hit me, come hit me."

I then see the bus pull up behind this guys car. There room for my truck, this guys car and a bus to fit in this bus stop. He is trying to make me hit him, people are getting off the bus and I am so angry. It was wrong for me to say it, I know, but I would not have gone through with it. I was just trying to get him out of my face so I could go and do my job. I turned around and put the stuff back in my truck, got in the cab and got out of there.

I was so angry that I was shaking. I hate being this angry and it affects me so much. It happened around 12pm and it is 9 pm and I am still getting to me. I keep thinking on what I should have said and how I should have dealt with it. I am a nice person and I rarely defend myself. But when I do defend myself it all goes wrong. When I try to stick up for myself I am always the one that backs down. I know I should not worry about winning or losing but when you are the one that backs down all your life you would just like, for once, to win one.

Have'nt been here in a while

Time for an update I think. The last time you heard from me was I had abseiled off the hospital. Since then I have work on the Coast to Coast as a parking attended. It was a hell of a lot of fun and hard work as well. We got up there on the Friday night and Went to the Bealey for a feed, which was awesome. Then we made camp at the transition station from the mountain run to the bike and it was also the stop over station for the two day racers. It was a good day and we were looked after very as being volunteers.

Have had a few trainings and the have been going very well. Still waiting to see if i have a job or not as we have not been told if we have been sold or not.

Well that's about it really, i know there is more to tell but i cant think of anything so i will catch up later.

Had a great day yesterday

We abseiled of the old hospital yesterday. We did an abseil in a stair well and then did one outside into some trees. Then another one outside which was a bit easier. Loved it all. Then we did some ascending which I hate. After that I was stuffed. The rest of the team did an offset abseil where they abseil but have another rope and that rope attached to your harness via a pulley. A person down the bottom then can make the abseiler move left or right or pull them out so the can doge a trees below. Then it was of to the Speights Ale house for a beer. All in all it was great and for once my fear of heights was not that bad and i just got to the edge and did it.

The Party

Man was I drunk. Fiona said I didn't sound that drunk but I sure was. I had about 15 shots of different spirits, and about 5 beers, Nikole and Brian make all the own spirits and they are very nice. Except for one. Nikole poured me a shot glass and I asked her what it was. I only caught a little look at the bottle and I thought it had lemon peel in the bottle. The spirit had no smell. So I down it. As I was sculling it, Nikole was heading to the fridge and put a bottle of coke on the bar.

AND THEN IT HIT

My mouth started to burn. To my shock, it was chilli tequlea. MAN IT WAS HOT. It wasn't lemon I saw, it was three whole chilli's and they had lost there red colour. My mouth was on fire, then my guts. The coke didn't do much and Nikole was pissing her self laughing.

It was a great BBQ and we had a good time. Thanks to Lisa, Brian and Nikole for the great night.

Another Day, Another Dollar.

The pic is of one of the guys in the team abseiling off the Old Christchurch Women's Hospital. We are very lucky to have a disused hospital.

Just finished work and I am looking forward to going to a birthday party tonight. Should be fun. It is for one of the rescue team members party at another rescue team house. I know it sounds a bit weird but she has a Bar in her garage with pool table and dart board. Oh and stereo out there as well.

I am looking forward to getting back into training. The funny thing is I have not missed it over the break. It is going to be full on as I am going to be taking two trainings a week and also looking after the Saturday training as well. I have lost my best training victim as in Holly my niece. She has moved back home to Rotorua. So i am on the hunt for a new victim for the team to rescue each week at trainings.

Hello people, I haven't been here in a while. I was having trouble logging in.

What has happened?

Not a lot really. Had Christmas at my in-laws. This is not a bad thing at all, I just have trouble with all the people. I was an only child and I am 31 now and I still find it hard in big crowd moments. But I am getting better and Fi's family is really cool. They are my family now really.

Had a Nana new years. I went to a friends house and sat and talk all night until midnight and then went home. Great company though. I got home and Fi had some sparkling wine for me. We toasted the new year and went to bed.

I have the first CD training on Monday. We get our new safety boots and we start the year off with the basics. It should be good.

Here are some more pics of the Cliff Dale Rescue Comp. Also here is why the rescue comp is called the Cliff Dale.

The Cliff Dale competition has been held every year since its inception since 1976. Cliff Dale was a warden for Papanui area donated the trophy. He later became the Chief Warden for Christchurch City.

The competition consists of a series of rescue related exercises that each participating team completes. Judges mark the teams, scores are collated and various trophies awarded.

Aims
To assess, in a competitive environment, a teams training and competency standard
Undertake a formal debrief of the exercise and record learning points for future competition planning.

2006 CLIFF DALE TROPHY

TEAM LEADERS’ INSTRUCTIONS

1. A team consists of eight ‘active’ members including the team leader. Team members should all be regular members of the team. You can change team members as often as you wish, but only eight persons may be active in any exercise. The ‘non-active’ team members are to remain at a distance from the exercise site, and may not assist the team in any manner. ‘Non-active’ team members may not observe any other exercise. Some teams may contain additional members from other teams if numbers are less than eight. Teams with less than 8 may use non members.

2. You can change the team leader as often as you wish. There is a trophy for the Best Leader. This will therefore be awarded to the team with the highest points for leadership, and may not reflect the ‘Best Leader’ where leaders are changed during the course of the competition.

3. Exercises are forty-five minutes in duration. This includes a briefing from the umpire, travel between exercises, and packing up. Check with the exercise umpire for actual finish times. Most exercises will have only thirty-five (35) minutes active time allowed. No time extension will be allowed.

4. Only equipment allocated by the umpires can be used, apart from personal bumbag equipment (i.e. personal lines etc). No team radios are to be used during the exercises. Check with the umpire before exercise commencement if in any doubt.

5. Safety is paramount. The team leader is responsible for this at all times. Umpires have the discretion to abort an exercise in the case of serious safety breaches, or call a pause to allow for correction of less serious concerns.

6. An umpire’s decision is final. If any disputes arise, these must be put in writing and addressed to the Chief Umpire as soon as possible after an exercise is completed.

7. All team members must be properly equipped with hard hats, boots, overalls, personal gear etc.

8. Ensure the Team Leader is identified to the umpire before commencement of an exercise, and it is preferable that the leader is easily identifiable during the exercise.

9. Morning tea and Lunch will be provided. After the final exercise gear will be collected. Prize giving will commence as soon as the results have been tabulated and finalised.

10. All team members must be registered. Team Leaders are to fill out a registration form and hand it in the registrar before competition commences.

At home. Was an easy day today, no real stress. Got training tonight. It is a fun night. Deb is dong a quiz for the team. We might do an exercise on being self sufficient for three days and write down what we as a team would need and what we would need as individuals. See how we go for time. Next week we will be doing a stocktake on gear and we will soon be winding up for the year.

I have done my day of cleaning stuff and I am now sitting down with a Speight's while watching C4's, UChoose, 80's classics. I never really fitted into an era of music. I was never a 80's kid or an 90's child. I just liked what I like. Dad was into Queen and Pink Floyd. I like any thing with a good beat and that can be anything from Rock to Drum and Base. I must admit I like music that can give you a good feeling. Like the music from The Blues Brothers. That would have to be my fav movie. The music in that gives you a great feeling.

My mother in-law had her 60th last night. So Fiona and I (mainly Fiona) helped set up her house for the party. I cooked the BBQ and it was a good night in all.

Today, well I am doing sweet FA. I need to do some washing and a little bit of a clean up and that will be that.

Man I hate show week. It is a short week and everyone goes crazy. Everyone orders and the drivers at work are run of there feet. I got to work at 6am this morning and I got home at 7:30pm. A very long day. Didnt have a break all day.

weather today has been weird. Very hot but the rivers around Canterbury are on high alert. We have been told that they are up really high. Have a look at www.ecan.govt.nz for more info about river levels. So it is a wait and see what the rivers do. When we have a nor-west wind in CHCH, the southen rangers, Canterbury foot hills and the West Coast get hit by a heap of rain and that is what has happened today. The rivers are going to peak about 3am so we wait and see.

Training Tonight

As above, training tonight. Going to have a debrief of the Cliff Dale. Also going to try on the new boots and jackets that we have been issued. Had a good day at work today. Did my run and was finished but 4:30pm. Tomorrow I have to do someone elses run, so that is like a change.

WE WON!!!

We won the Cliff Dale rescue Comp!! I am very proud of the team. They did a great Job. Christchurch City Council Team came second.

Was a very hot day. The first exercise we started with was a ladder hinge. We had to put a ladder up onto a building and then get all the team up there and then ladder hinge the victim down on the other side of the building. Next we did a two point lower and I got covered in all this black stuff of the roof of the building. The we did a ladder slide and had a morning tea.

Next we did a team building exercise and then into a first aid one. We had two car and one was on it roof. Looked very real and gave you a bit of a shock when you saw it. The last exercise was a Single Point lower. That went well. We came away with the first aid trophy a three way tie for Casualty Handerling trophy and the Cliff Dale trophy.

I also won Team Leader.

All in all it was a great day.

Well I have the rescue comp on Saturday. Should be a bit of fun. We have been training a heap so this year we are going to win it. (I hope) Have almost won it for the last four years. One of the team that is normaly in the comp cant be there this year. It is going to be like going to the olympics without the USA. Oh well.
